Forms Of Aloe Vera As Constipation Remedies
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
People have used aloe for centuries to fight constipation problems. However, due to a series of experiments the FDA found that aloe was a dangerous product and commanded companies to stop marketing it as a laxative. While they do not market it as such, companies continue to carry such products and sell them.
Aloe is found in a gel form that can be mixed directly with food or drink matter to be taken orally. Although advocated, this method is considered to be uncontrolled as the dosage is not properly measured out. This is because the concentration of aloe varies from producer to producer in such gels.
Aloe capsules are sold that can be taken orally. The capsules are available at nutritional supplement stores or online. Dosing is a little more controlled than with the gel form but different manufacturers will use different concentrations.
Some people drink aloe vera juice directly. The juice is available in bottled form at major national chain drugstores like Walgreens and CVS. However, the concentration of juice can vary from product to product.
In lieu of aloe vera, there are some other natural laxative supplements that can be taken to fight constipation.
The first of these among the non-pharmaceutical methods is increased fiber therapy. Such a treatment strategy involves targeting typical foods that are fiber-rich or consuming fiber supplements.
Some find the effort needed in targeting fiber-rich foods is excessive. A way to fix this is to consider the various popular fiber supplements. These are labeled under brand names like metamucil and usually come in powdered forms of plant material like psyllium.
Pharmaceutical-wise, a number of laxatives is used by those with constipation. Amongst the most popular are the well recognized osmotic laxatives and the stimulant laxatives. The agents are named for what is apparently the chemical basis of action. Osmotic agents absorb fluid from the internal tissue into the colonic space which promotes acceleration of transit of contents. Stimulating medication cause the intestines to become more active.
