Copywriting is the art of persuasion. When it's done well, your customers will be eager to buy. They'll be grateful to you for providing them the opportunity to buy your products, and you'll increase your profits.
I've been writing for copywriting clients for 30 years. It's the form of writing I most enjoy, because every client is different, and so is every project. Here are some secrets you can use today.
1. Ask the magic word -- WHY. Great sales people have the ability to read people -- to instantly know why a car buyer will buy a particular model of car. Or how to sell a woman a wedding dress that's worth more than she earns in three months.
Why would you customer buy the bed you're selling, over competitors' beds? Why do your customers buy insurance? Why do they contribute to a charity?
2. Once you know why your customer is likely to buy your product over that of a competitor, it's time to consider your offer, especially if you're writing for the Web -- on the Web, your customer just clicks the Back button in his browser, and he's gone.
Your offer is always all-important. It should be so powerful that buying the product is a no-brainer. If you're creating copy for a product which is generic, and there's no real reason it's special, you'll need to make the offer stronger.
3. Copywriting for the Web offers a special challenge: credence. Your customers need to develop confidence in the company, and in the produce you're selling.
Dependability is especially important when you're copywriting for the Web. There are so many online scams, that people are justifiably anxious about typing in their credit card details.
You now have three secrets which will help you to write great copy which sells. Apply them, and watch your copywriting career take off.
