Are you preparing to take a cruise? It is sure to be an exciting trip for the entire family but forgetting the essentials can be costly and frustrating. Travel planning is essential. Here are some tips to preparing for your travel tour at sea.
If you forget to pack something it's not the end of the world. Cruise ships have gift shops selling the basic necessities and over the counter medicine. However, if you're like most, you have your preferred cosmetics, soaps and lotions. Not only will the selection be small but the cost for the convenience can be pricey.
First off, don't forget the necessary documents for your trip including your plane tickets, travel insurance, medical cards and boat tickets. If you'll be going to another county you'll need more than just your driver's license. Check with your cruise company or travel agent for required immigration documents. Most countries only require a passport but some require you to apply for visas or provide proof of vaccinations.
While most of your necessities will be included with your cruise, make sure you bring money with you. Carrying some cash is essential but since credit cards are accepted it is not necessary or recommended to carry large amounts of cash. Traveler's checks are also widely accepted and are easily replaced if lost or stolen. In case your credit cards are lost or stolen, bring a list of your credit card numbers and their phone numbers and keep the list separate from your cards.
Make sure you bring any prescription medication you or your family requires. Bring a copy of your prescription or the medicine bottle label. If you loose your medicine or need more, it will be easier to get more. Also bring a small supply of over the counter medication such as pain reliever, ant-indigestion and anti-histamine pills. Not only is it more expensive on the ship, but it will save on hassle. Don't forget your eyeglasses and contact lenses since those won't be easy to replace when you're on the cruise.
You'll surely want to take plenty of pictures. If you have a digital camera, don't forget your charger and bring one or two extra memory cards. Bring plenty of film if you have a camera that requires it and if the batteries aren't rechargeable then bring an extra set.
Bring your calling card or buy one before you leave. Making a call on the ship is expensive and using your cell phone is not always possible. If your cell phone works, then check roaming costs before you leave so you're not surprised when you get your bill.
Your cruise vacation is sure to be a trip that you won't forget. Pack the necessities, don't forget the required documents and take lots of pictures.
