Springtime Is For Flowers, Birds And Gift Giving

Every February I look for the first robin. It's a spring ritual of mine. And with the return of the robins, I know that spring flowers and green lushness of trees leafed out cannot be far behind. I love spring - I think most people do. And maybe it's the happiness of making it through another harsh winter as our ancestors did that causes us to look for any reason for a celebration of life. We plan weddings and we see young adults graduate and many many more events.
Parties are fantastic ways to celebrate life an maybe it's this joy that caused the tradition of gift giving to develop. I'm not sure how it all started but gifting is expected on most of these events.
It may seem like a drag to have to bring a gift to every occasion but if you are thoughtful you can think of gifts that won't break the bank. And often times I just look out my window for a little inspiration.
If you are buying for Mother's day and she likes to garden, consider a useful garden tool. For newlyweds, a gift that doubles down as a housewarming gift is always loved. Now mix in the nature element and give them a picnic basket filled with some of their place settings. Or for more modest budgets you can use cheaper but fun plastic-ware that they'll use over and over.
Graduates may also be setting up a new home and can use some of the items suggested above. My husband will soon be graduating with his advanced degree, and he has spent the last three years wishing he had more time to enjoy his favorite sports of golf and baseball instead of studying. After his equipment has sat idle for several seasons, he would gladly accept a new golf glove, or the like, for his graduation gift. However, I think some new grill "toys" would be more appropriate, as that would keep him home and I would get a good meal cooked by someone other than me!
Kids love spring more than anyone. After spending hours indoors at school and then hours indoors after school as well, they can't wait to break out and play outside for a while. My daughter's birthday falls in spring, and she has received beach towels, sand toys, and pool toys for gifts. Other gift ideas would be anything to get kids outside playing, such as hula hoops, jump ropes, bicycle bells, sidewalk chalk, and flower seeds. We all know spring can also bring rainy weather. To brighten up those stormy days, consider giving a new, brightly colored umbrella or rain coat.
Spring is that wonderful time of year when it's not too hot or too cold and the world is alive with color and new life. May your spring gift giving be inspired by this wonderful time of year.
