A Short Introduction To Back Pain
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
When a person starts to develop back pain, they are going to have to deal with several different consequences. If the pain is constant, then the suffering will probably prevent a person from performing normal everyday tasks. If the aching is intermittent, then the person may not suffer quite as much but if the aching becomes sharp, then again it can cause incapacitation (temporary). The worst thing about such a problem is that it can occur out of the blue, for no real reason and it may be hard to treat as well.
Mostly, back pain will not last for too long and it can easily disappear on its own within a few days, even if it has not been treated. At the same time, it can also last for weeks, which occurs when you ignore the problem and do not treat it at all. In case of chronic pain in the back you will start to feel out of sorts for months, if not years at a time.
If the hurting turns out to be severe, then you could be incapacitated for several days during which time you will need to undergo medical treatment. All this time, the condition can make it hard for you to pass urine normally and your back as well as genital areas can also become numb. The condition of your legs will become weak and you might even experience shooting aches in that part of your body which will lead to experiencing unsteadiness while standing. In such cases, it is important to get yourself seen and treated by a doctor immediately.
Back pain can affect different parts of the body and the aching will vary in its intensity leading to stiffness and soreness as well as experiencing a burning sensation. Each time the patient sits or bends or even tries walking, they will experience exacerbation of the pain which becomes especially bad after standing for a long period of time.
Pinched nerves will lead to feeling numb and it can also make the nerves tingle. It will also give rise to either hot or cold sensations. Pinched nerves can cause burning or stabbing aches that start in the back and spread to arms and legs.
Compression in the nerves is a major reason why people suffer from pain in the back. In such circumstances, the muscles become numb and weak. In some cases, especially when the compression is not treated, the muscles can even atrophy.
It pays to understand what the main cause of back pain is. Under and even overuse of the back is a primary (and very common) cause of this problem. A herniated disc is another cause. Spinal stenosis is also considered as being one of the causes of this condition as too is a pinched nerve, sciatica and spinal tumor.
Back pain can be treated and in most cases this treatment will be very conservative. You may want to use a home remedy to obtain relief, or you may choose to use medications to treat the condition. Sometimes, people even choose to be injected with steroids that are a good means of treating inflammation as well as aching that is brought on by conditions such as spinal stenosis and disc herniation.
