What is Organic Sapote Seed Oil?
Organic Sapote Seed Oil, also known as Pouteria Sapota, is orange in colour, but unlike many oils, is not greasy. Instead, Sapote oil is amazingly soft, smooth, thick, sweet marzipan scent and creamy texture, which is unusual for oils.
Thriving on heat and a lot of rain, Mamey trees originate mainly in Southern American countries, such as Mexico, however, they are also known to grow in Southern parts of Florida too, although the trees are generally found to be too tender in Florida to produce fruit.
Extracting oil
The Sapote fruits black seeds are extracted before being cold pressed, at a low temperature. Regulations state that to be considered as "cold pressed", temperatures must never exceed 27 degrees Celsius. As further pressings will increase the heat used to extract the oil, however these oils are not considered as good as the first, cold press. To be considered cold pressed, the oil must have been the result of the first pressing of the seeds.
Uses
Like many popular fruits, locals commonly freeze Sapote fruit, and turn it into yummy foods such as ice cream and smoothies, that are popular not only because they are so delicious, but also because they have so much nutritional value, including calcium and Vitamins (A and C).
Despite that, Western countries have found that the goodness in Sapote fruit also makes its oil a great ingredient in hair and skin care products.
The boffins at Purdue University, in Indiana have been working hard at researching the real benefits of Sapote Seed oil on the hair, and as a result, they discovered that:
A little Sapote applied to the scalp each morning, will moisturise the skin on your head, whilst nourishing each strand of hair from root to tip, so that it looks gorgeous and shiny, leaving hair is easy to manage with more bounce.
Applied to the scalp, Sapote Seed Oil will nourish your dry skin, as well as your curly locks. This is especially useful for anyone who suffers from unruly hair due to his or her tresses being dry. Dry hair can be caused by a variety of things including, over use of heat (hair driers), chemicals (colouring or having your natural hair texture altered) or even because of extremely hot or cold weather conditions.
Even better, if your skin is feeling particularly dry and/or cracked, a little Sapote Seed Oil will soon have that fixed for you, leaving your skin smooth and free from that dry, itching feeling. Therefore, a little oil could be your secret weapon when the harshness of winter sets in, not only in your natural hair care regime but for your whole body.
