Naturally Soothing Anxiety-Ridden Pets
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Pets are very similar to humans. They can suffer from stress and anxiety just like we do. When something traumatizing happens in their life they can be affected by it just like we can.
Pets can get help for their suffering. Essential oils can help your pet heal and have a chance to get better. Natural medicines are great for animals because they offer less side effects than traditional medicine can.
The two essential oils we are going to talk about in the blog are Roman Chamomile and lavender. Both of these items can help pets that suffer from hyperactivity, depression, and fear. They can help with any types of feeling of anxiety.
Be sure to talk to your vet before administering essential oils to your animals. Animals can be very sensitive, so the less you use the better. Instead of using the essential oil in its pure form, use a carrier oil to dilute it a little. Here are a few treatments you can use on various pets you may have.
For a dog you can calm their anxiety by mixing 1 drop of lavender and Roman Chamomile oil with 1 drop of carrier oil. This mixture can be applied directly on the fur if your dog would like that. The mixture can also be applied on your dog's pads and on his ears.
You can calm your horse with the same recipe. Mix 1 drop of lavender oil, 1 drop of roman chamomile oil, and then 1 drop of carrier oil together. Apply to the horse's muzzle, cornet bands, or ears.
One pet you do have to be careful of with essential oils is your pet cat. Cats lack an enzyme in their liver that makes them unable to digest phenols. You have to be very sure that the oil does not have phenol in it.
Lavender and Roman Chamomile, on the other hand, are completely safe for cats. You should dilute it more than with animals, by using 10 drops of carrier oil instead of just 1. You can apply the mixture on the cat's ears, fur, and pads.
