The Story Of Jet Airways And How They Turned Tragedy Into Success

Full credit must be given to Jet Airways (India) for all they have accomplished in just seventeen short years since their inception in 1993. Their serious approach to accomplishing their goals is shown through their mission statement as well as the long list of awards they have won. They flatly state they will be the airline of choice in their home country of India and rise above all the standards of other airlines. They are also completely committed to having the highest quality of service and reliable operations. As far as domestic air passenger service is concerned, Jet Airways will strive to become a world class airline of choice for domestic travel. From what we have seen, this airline seems to be on-target to meet their goals.
The airline is built from two smaller passenger carrier airlines: Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite. Jet Airways Konnect was created to meet a demand made by a specific market that exists in India. Konnect serves seven of India's major cities as well as a few major international cities too.
This subsidiary was formed with the intention of satisfying the need of the huge market of fliers who have lower budgets. JetLite, which was bought up by the company early on in 2007 caters almost to the same market but they offer higher priced accommodations. Still, it is not intended to cater to those who like flying first class. JetLite serves twenty-seven domestic destinations and one international destination: Kathmandu. The combined daily flights for both subsidiaries totals almost 300 daily flights. Jet Airways bought Air Sahara and created the subsidiary, JetLite Airlines. As an alternative to expanding Jetlite, Jet Konnect was created in May 2009. This happened because regulations caused unacceptable delays in transferring aircraft from Jet Airways to JetLite. So apparently it was easier to
simply create a new airline. The third quarter of 2010 was very good for the parent and JetLite companies. Of the India air passenger business, the combined operations of Jet Airways enjoyed 26.9% of the market share. A good criteria for arriving at that figure is based on the number of passengers carried. Those numbers show that the company is the top market leader in India's domestic air passenger carrier service.
The month of May 2011 was a historic one for Jet Airways because during that month they carried two million passengers. For the Aviation Industry of India and the company, that was a historic moment. Along with that announcement in early June 2011, the announcement was also made that in May the airline had a 17% increase in both international and domestic travel.
Even though it hasn't even been around for two full decades yet Jet Airways has been able to grow at a rapid pace thanks to aggressive marketing and innovative management. When you consider the monumental issues facing India as a collective society, it is to the credit of the founders of Jet Airways that they have progressed as far as they have.
