Scabies can come in all forms and kinds and it really depends upon a person's immune system as to whether or not the outbreak will be minor or severe. These little insects are so small that a microscopic lens is necessary to observe their physical presence. This history of these insects goes back thousands of years and even primitive doctors long ago were aware of them. The general symptoms are very itchy skin, if not extreme itchiness, that is due to the body's allergic reaction. The mites actually burrow into the skin, just below the surface and live while reproducing. All people can contract scabies depending upon certain conditions. It really has no demographic; it can appear on people from affluent regions to those that are very young and clean.
If this is your first time with mites, you may not notice any itching; many people that contract scabies won't notice any type of itching for at least 14 days. Scabies can still be passed from person to person regardless of the lack of itching as it can still be in the skin.
As you can see, even if someone is not itching, they can still transmit the scabies very easily. The initial several weeks finds you body's immune system developing a sensitivity to the infestation. Once your body has this realization, the itching will occur because it is, in essence, an allergic reaction. Therefore, even if a person does not experience the itching initially, they can still be a carrier and pass it on to others.
There are many different places on your body where you can have the symptoms of scabies. Scabies like to populate the skin folds and crevices such as those you find on the inside of your wrist. The burrows can also be seen in the webbing of your fingers and look like thin pencil lines. Warm, moist places, such as the underarm, are prime places for a scabies infestation. One common infection site is around the waist, most particularly in the belly button. Then there are gender specific areas of likely infestation, as well.
There are certain situations that can put people at risk for developing a scabies infestation. Many common areas for contracting scabies include prisons and nursing homes. Just about any situation that is overly crowded represents a potential thread to contracting scabies. In countries that are still developing, the children that grow up in these regions are at high risk for scabies infestations. Typically, more than one relative is afflicted by scabies infestations in these regions. Due to their ability to survive on inanimate objects, it is easy for scabies to move on to different hosts that handle the same objects on a regular basis.
The symptoms of scabies is such that it is nearly impossible for someone to have them and leave them untreated. People that have scabies will definitely experience excessive amounts of itching, which always prompts them to seek medical attention. People also risk getting supplementary infections that will inevitably occur if the scabies is not treated in a timely manner. This type of infection typically occurs when someone scratches their skin so badly that the bacteria can manifest. Anyone that thinks that they have scabies should immediately get a diagnosis from a medical doctor and get treated for this infestation.
