Energy efficient people have had pride in solar power for many years. Solar power is the type of energy that is converted by capturing the heat of the sun's rays and transforming it into usable forms of energy. Although solar panels are still extremely popular and have been extremely successful in energy conservation and reducing the Earth's carbon foot print. But wind power is the new thing in the energy world.
What's Wind Power?
Wind power is energy that is generated by converting wind into energy. Wind power is not as new as it seems. It has been used for centuries by humans to move ships and other things. By the time of the Industrial Revolution, wind was used in more sophisticated endeavors such as the water-pumping windmill which provided farmers with irrigation when they farmed in dry lands. It is also credited with helping to expand the use of trains as a form of personal and industrial transportation by providing water for steam locomotives.
How to Capture the Wind
Wind power is an alternative to fossil fuels that potentially harm out environment. These are causes to global warming. You must dig for fossil fuels. There are several ways in which we can capture wind in order to turn it into a useful source of energy. They include wind pumps, mills and turbines.
Wind mills aren't a new invention. Wind mills have been used for the last 9 centuries. They are most commonly used in the production of grain to help grind the wheat. They have however, been credited with providing power to fuel saw and paper mills.
Wind pumps transfer water from one place to a dry place. These are also used for farms during droughts.
Wind turbines look like propellers. They're usually put on tall areas where they can catch wind. Some municipalities have begun to build wind farms in their locations. It is not uncommon in parts of the US to drive down the highway and see miles of large wind turbines line the roadways.
Consider yourself warned if you thought about getting your own turbine. They are expensive, even with government subsidies. You won't be able to generate much power if you don't live in a windy location.
