Add lightings, movement sensors, outdoor enclosures, wireless adapters and other electronic add-ons to an Internet (IP) camera - and you now have a powerful, yet economical electric security guard. Web cameras such as these can be just right for watching over holiday homes and RV's, remote job sites, distant businesses, or anything which needs supervising. The first step was to attach a PIR sensing device to the camera to trigger it to transmit alerts and to record images or videos of the events which activated the detector. Step 2 is to attach a floodlight to discourage would-be wrongdoing or thievery.

A webcam is a video camera which feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, often via USB, ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Portable Internet cards. Their hottest function is the administration of video links, allowing local or faraway computers to serve as Digital Video Recorder (DVR), or more accurately, Network Video Recorder (NVR) stations. This common use as a camera for the web gives the webcam its name "webcam". Webcams far and by include a lens, photo sensor, and some support electronics. Different lenses are available, the most common in consumer-grade webcams being a plastic lens which can be screwed in and out to alter the camera's common focus. Fixed focus lenses, which have no space for readjustment, are also available. As a camera's astuteness of field is wider for fine image formats and is better for lenses with a large f-number (small aperture), the systems used in webcams have sufficiently large depth of sphere that the utilization of a fixed focus lens does not bear upon image sharpness much. Image sensing devices can be CCD or CMOS, with CMOS being prevalent for affordable cameras, but CCD cameras do not necessarily outmatch CMOS-supported cameras in the affordable price range. Most consumer webcams are capable of providing VGA-resolution video at a good rate (about 30 frames a second). Many newer ones can produce video in large-pixel resolutions.
Support electronics read the photo from the sensing device and transmit it to a local host computer via Ethernet cable or other connectivity. If a local host computer isn't available, the cameras can be connected to the Internet directly, using the popular wireless Internet cards, such as 3G and 4G cards from diverse providers. Some more powerful cameras include built-in processors which add multiple features, such as motion sensing transmission, email transmitting, scheduled sending of still images and telecasts. Some can also include pictures and videos within email messages. Most web cameras have built-in microphones.
Add a good floodlight to the camera. This floodlight can be activated by the PIR sensor. Alternatively, some cameras are capable of turning the lights on remotely using the remote-supervising software, which make them useful for diverse sureveillance procedures. Some cameras have built-in devices to turn on a floodlight to not only enlighten the region under surveillance, but also serve as a thievery deterrence.
