Repairing Your Own Ethernet Cord

Our society today relies heavily upon the use of the internet. Whether it's in an office or at home, people are online all the time. Many different tools and parts go into setting up the internet and one of the key parts is an Ethernet cord.
Ethernet cords are pretty well known. They are the stem that connects your network to the internet. It runs from one Ethernet Port to another allowing a computer to receive the internet signal.
Ethernet cords usually have a bright blue encasing to make them easy to identify. They also have cables on each of its ends which are made to fit into the Ethernet Ports. These connecting ends are known as RJ-45 cable connectors.
RJ-45 is also known as Registered Jack 45. It's just a name to specify its function as a networking jack. Other jacks like phone jacks are different sizes and cannot be used interchangeably. The RJ-45 cable end is the only size that will fit properly into an Ethernet Port. If the wrong size is plugged into the Ethernet Port, you can risk breaking the whole outlet.
Aside from the Ethernet Port getting damaged, the Ethernet cord itself can also be easily damaged. This however is much easier to fix than a broken outlet. The first thing you will do with your broken cord is take away all the damaged areas. If it's the cord, cut it down to the good area and if it's the cable end, find a replacement piece to use.
Your next step in fixing the cord will be to strip all the open ends. This means the blue casing will need to be removed so that the wires underneath are exposed. With these wires you will place them in this specific order: green-white, green, orange-white, blue, blue-white, orange, brown-white, and lastly brown.
Now that the wires are in order, you will want to neatly plug them into their appropriate spots on the jack end. Do it carefully so that you don't damage the wires. Once correctly placed, clamp the cord so that the wires don't come loose.
Fixing your own Ethernet cord will save you from having to buy another one. It's a great way to recycle old chords as well. It may take some time to go through this the first time, but once you get it down you're set.
