Regardless of what you've heard or believe, article marketing is a cinch. You can write an article to promote your business. Distributing articles through a directory is a great way to promote yourself no matter what your product or service. And I promise there is one style of article you can write, even if you don't consider yourself a writer and have never written before.
A Top-Ten List, a.k.a The "David Letterman"
Begin with a subject that is applicable to your business, and then do the research for good keywords. A keyword is a single word, or even a phrase, that people are typing into Google or other search engines to find information. For your purposes, the information you want them to find is your article. Some people find keyword research to be a bit of a challenge, but there's an easy trick to overcome this. Just sit down at your computer, imagine your product or service, and think about what words you would type in if you were looking for a solution to your problem.
Look through your article topic, and pick out anything you can use to create a list. Then simply construct an article around that list. It doesn't have to be that long, and you can be as creative as you like. Try something like the "Top Ten Ways to (eat an elephant)", or "3 Great Questions To Ask (a blind poker player), or "7 Simple Techniques For (fat guys to get the ladies)". Some other proven ones are "10 Great Ideas For...," "Top Ten Tips for...," "Ten Secrets About...," "3 Steps To...," and on and on. You get the idea.
Next, just follow the step-by-step outline below. Lets assume the article is on article marketing (surreal, isn't it?). You're going to talk about how to get free traffic for your website, for example, and your keyword is on "article marketing" and "free website traffic."
1. Write your title using the keyword. This allows searchers to find your article easily. Heres an example: "Article Marketing: 7 Ways To Get Free Website Traffic."
2. Write a description or summary sentence or paragraph that tells the reader what benefits they get from reading your article. For our example: "How many streams are you using to get free traffic for your website? You'll learn seven simple and easy article marketing ideas here."
3. Now sell your article to the reader in the first paragraph. And use your keyword again if at all possible. Without crossing the line into hype, you have to make it exciting to read. For example: "You can get Free website traffic with article marketing with a click of the mouse if you know what to look for."
4. Okay, here comes the David Letterman part. Create your numbered list. Write a few sentences that explain each bullet point. Like this: "1. Write your article. This is one of the best ways to get free website traffic. Submit your articles to the free directories. Readers will find your website through the link at the end of your article. 2. Swap links with popular, high-traffic sites." And so on.
At the end of your article, you want to include a summary paragraph. Something short and sweet like: "As you can see, some ways to generate free website traffic through article marketing are easier than others, but you need to test them all. Then all that's left is finding what works best for your website..." Don't forget a summary paragraph. You will virtually kill an articles effectiveness without it. People have come to expect it as a result of High School English class: Tell 'em what youre going to tell 'em, tell 'em, and then tell 'em what you just told 'em.
6. Now you want to include a short resource box or About-the-Author section. Introduce yourself using only one sentence, then talk about the benefits the reader will get by visiting your website. Include a hyperlink to your site. Try to limit it to one, but certainly no more than two. Here's an example: "For more information on article marketing and 127 other ways to get free website traffic, visit..." The resource box is your most important part of the article. It's what connects the reader back to you, which is the reason you wrote the article in the first place, right?
As you can see, you can write a simple, effective David Letterman style article in no time. And without much "talent." All you have to do is follow the steps outlined here, and you will have tons of traffic banging at your doorstep.
