Visiting Ponta D' Ouro In Mozambique

If you don't expect the luxury and celebrity watching offered by the Bahamas, but would none the less appreciate the appeal of a tropical paradise offering remoteness and friendliness, Ponta d' Ouro located in southern Mozambique, is a must to visit.
The last two hundred of the six hundred and eighty kilometers road from Johannesburg is trying and in parts difficult to travel on if you don't know such roads. Turning off the main road after passing Pongola and crossing the Jozini dam wall, the road becomes a bit unfriendly. Although it is a tarmac surface, this stretch through Maputoland, past the Ndomu and Tembe national parks on the way to Emangusi is riddled with road works and long stoppages can be expected at times. From Emangusi, the road becomes more of a soft sand track leading to the SA Mozambique border post. Up to here you could make it in a normal automobile, but from the border to Ponta d' Ouro, you will require a 4x4 vehicle. Although the last stretch from the border to Ponta d'Ouro is only 14 kilometers, it is deep loose sand and only navigable by 4x4.
Once you reach the little town of Ponta du Oura, though, you will forget about the experience of getting there. Ponta is a real pretty spot with the landscape and the sea together with the climate opening up to the ideal holiday location. Ponta du Oura is only a small place, dominated by tourist accommodation, and of course the blue Indian Ocean. A friendly and relaxed town Ponta du Oura offers, apart from accommodation to suit your needs and budget, friendly Portuguese eating places, serving local fare like chicken peri peri and prawns, as well as other sea food, often accompanied by pao (Portuguese bread). A smattering of friendly pubs makes for some evening life and these places are frequented by scuba divers, windsurfers, fishermen and other holiday makers, all enjoying themselves in the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the town.
Ponta du Oura is the ideal place to visit also as a family as it offers safe and welcoming activities to all.
