We all procrastinate from time to time. For some of us, a little procrastination is harmless. For some this can be the difference between a productive work day and not getting the right things done in a work day. Does this describe you?, Then you likely just need a bit of help developing a time management plan. Fortunately this is a skill that most people can master easily. You just have to work hard at it and try not to let yourself get too distracted. See the tips below for management skills anyone can use to increase productivity.
Don't try to be perfect. No matter how good you get at time management, perfection is not humanly possible. If you are fixated on being perfect, you will always be disappointed. This may be perverse, but it's true. If you are going to effectively manage your time and methodically complete your tasks, you can't be concerned with perfection. You can never get everything done. No one does everything perfectly all the time. All you can do is give it your best effort. If you want to get better at time management, you have to learn how to relax and reduce your stress levels.
When you operate in harmony with your body's own clock, you are much more productive. "Night people" will tend to get more accomplished later in the day. Mornings are the most productive time for lots of other people. Still others find that they get the most done right after lunch.
Try to accommodate your own natural rhythm when you schedule your day. When you have to do something that requires sustained effort or creativity, try to do it when you have the most energy. Then you have the advantage of working in harmony with your own body rather than against it. Since you'll be obeying your natural inclinations, you will also feel better about your work!
Naturally, you want to do as many things as you can, but you also want to make sure they are getting done the right way. While you may want to make your deadline, don't turn out an inferior product or service just to be on time.
Turning out high quality work should be your priority, even if you are a little late. If you create your schedule with an honest appraisal of how long each task will take, you won't run into as much trouble. It's always a good idea to assume things will take longer than you thought, so plan for this by allowing some extra time. It can be very stressful if you only have barely enough time to finish something, so you're better off giving yourself more time than you'll probably need. Developing time management abilities takes time and effort. The simple truth is that we all procrastinate sometimes. Diversions are everywhere. We all have lazy and unproductive days. If you stay focused on improving, you will gradually make progress. Just focus on completing one activity at a time, and things will get done. Soon you will find that you are getting more tasks completed than ever before. It won't even seem like hard work. Then you will be the one others come to for advice on time management.
