The sad thing about holidays is that they often don't come cheap. Of course, part of the satisfaction of a holiday is that you've earned it, but if you want to go overseas without having to empty your bank account there are ways that you can be thrifty. A lot of it comes down to thinking ahead, and not worrying too much about the specifics of your journey and stay.
Travel is one of the main areas that eats up cash. There's heavy tax to pay on air travel, and that means that the airline ticket price can double, or worse, once it comes to actually paying the full amount for the trip. One way of still making sure you get cheap flight tickets is to book a long time before you have to travel. You tend to be rewarded for you diligence with much cheaper tickets, and can get to locations such as Spain for prices that are lower than train travel within the UK.
Finding a good place to stay can make the difference between a great holiday and one that's memorable for the wrong reasons. Being thrifty is good, but make sure you check reviews of any place you're going to first so you know what to expect. Be flexible with where you're willing to stay. The more open minded you are the more likely you are to find something that's at a lower price.
Don't get drawn into eating at expensive restaurants for each meal. Some places are set out to try and get as much cash from tourists as possible, which is fair enough, but that doesn't mean you have to be resigned to emptying your pockets each day. Either get full board with your place of stay to save cash, or else stock up on things from grocery stores to see you through some lighter meal times.
So there are ways of making travel abroad cheaper. It's really a case of planning ahead and being thrifty with your choices.
