Most people like spending time in the sun to get that lovely tan to their skin. Then there are others who are aware that the sun is the best possible source of vitamin D and can help with stress, especially in conjunction with supplements. You could have your own reasons for sunbathing, however, the truth is that the sun's rays could be more damaging to your skin than beneficial.
The sun's rays contain two types of ultraviolet radiation. These are UVA and UVB. While UVA radiation makes you tan, UVB can actually burn the upper layers of the skin, causing reddening.
Sunlight is the best source of vitamin D and most people don't want to miss out on getting this nutrient. However, if you want to spend some time in the sun to get this nutrient, use good sun protection.
The best protection is, of course, sunscreen lotions and creams. They should be of at least 15 SPF and you should be wearing it even on cloudy days or even when you are planning to stay indoors. A moisturizer containing sunscreen is also an option you should think about.
You should know that the higher the SPF, the better is the protection that it offers against the sun's UV rays. So, when being exposed to direct sun, use a sunscreen with a high SPF, almost as high as 30. Apply the sunscreen thickly and frequently and reapply every two hours of being under the sun.
For that wonderful tanned look to your skin, try using one of the tanning products available. Sun lamps and tanning beds are ideal choices to get a radiant glow to the skin and that too without the usual damaging effects of the sun's rays.
Tans are also available in the form of sprays and lotions that you can easily use to get a glow on the skin. However, keep in mind that just because you have a tan, it doesn't mean that you are protected against the harmful effects of the sun. So, make sure to wear sunscreen.
If lack of vitamin D is your top concern, you could buy vitamin D supplements. These contain D3 vitamin or cholecalciferol and 15 micrograms is the recommended dosage for this nutrient for everyone.
