Being addicted is a horrible situation. It becomes an addiction prompting you to yearn for more. So it is with Damages, the TV series that has allowed Glenn Close to receive an Emmy and Golden Globe for her starring role. Several of the writers and actors have received various nominations for the show.
Glenn Close plays Patty Hewes, the lawyer from Hewes and Associates. Once more, she excels at playing the part of a person whom we love to despise. And then Ellen Parsons, played by Rose Byrne, shows up. She's a recent graduate who many firms scout, but prefers to work for Patty Hewes. While their personalities are disparate, they agree that they'll never be controlled by anyone else. As these characters evolve, you see some amazing performances.
The show has a dizzying array of flashbacks, forwards, and events happening now. If you miss even a minute of this show, you are likely to miss a key plot development. Attention is a prerequisite for keeping up with Damages' complicated plot. You need to keep your eyes peeled at all times. Take for example the moment in the shows beginning episode when Ray Fiske examines the collar worn by Saffron. Characters come and go and you are expected to remember them. Also, be ready to lose at least one of your favorite characters. From show to show you'll never know who will make it to next week. Damages has a first season run of 13 shows, but only some of the starting cast will comeback for a second series.
Now, I ask will my addiction continue? Can the writers keep coming up with such great material? Can more adventure be found for another season? Wishing is all we can do! TV will lose one of the best series to debut on the small screen in years if the writers and producers can match the quality of the first season in the second.
I would certainly recommend purchasing a HDTV, so you can enjoy your show in the best quality possible. A superior block of programming in both digital and hi-def is available from my local Comcast Cable provider. The show is even better when it is in high definition. But HDTV isn't all. I recommend Comcast as a top-notch provider for broadband, cable, and digital phone service.
