1. Find out what your uniform is made of
Soccer uniforms are generally made out of a heavy weight and stretchable polyester fiber or mesh. This makes the fabric very sturdy yet stretchable enough to wear for comfortable movement. These kinds of fabrics are in fact much easier to take care of compared to cotton fabrics.
2. Presoak soccer uniforms
Presoaking is important in keeping uniforms looking as good as new. After each game, any dirt that has attached itself to the uniform should be rinsed in a utility sink. It can also be hanged on a clothesline and sprayed with water. After this, fill a bucket with detergent and a cup of baking soda diluted in warm water. Soak the team soccer uniforms for at least an hour, although soaking them overnight is preferable.
3. Never use chlorine bleach
Sometimes, the soccer team management is tempted to use chlorine bleach, especially if they have white or gray uniforms. However, chlorine bleach is ineffective when used on polyester knits and can result in the material becoming damaged.
If it really is necessary, oxygen or all-fabric bleach may be used to make clothes appear lighter and whiter.
4. Wash team soccer uniforms separately
Although it is essentially a team sport, these uniforms must be washed alone in a washing machine. They should never be washed with other clothes for other purposes because most common clothes are made of cotton or cotton blend materials. Soccer team management explains that the lint coming from these fabrics may adhere to the letters and numbers on a jersey. After presoaking a uniform, fill the washing machine with cold water and detergent, and wash as usual. It is important to ensure that hot or warm water never comes in contact with the uniforms because it will make the letters and numbers fade.
5. Never use heat
As previously mentioned, heat is never good for polyester fabrics. As such, team soccer uniforms must never be put in the dryer. The intense heat can cause the fabric to shrink, make stains set, and fade the colors. To dry the uniform, it would be better to hang them to air dry, away from direct sunlight.
