The basic throws include the Full Toss, when the cricket ball reaches the batsman without a bounce, Over Pitch, when the ball bounces within the batsman’s reach, Good Length, when the ball bounces just outside the batsman’s reach, and Long Hop or Short-Pitch, which is bounced far from the batsman and reaches them after a long bounce. Bowlers also have some tricky ways to deliver cricket balls including the Seamer, a fast pitch that breaks unexpectedly and the Googly, which by using a reverse finger spin the ball comes in looking like it will move away from the batsman but instead it bounces and comes into them.
There are many other pitches and bowlers will spend years perfecting their skills. There is even a strategy that involves the condition of the cricket ball. Players know that new cricket balls are harder and move faster so they are best for the fast bowlers, while older balls spin better so they are best for the spin bowlers. A smart team captain will always be aware of the condition of the cricket ball and try to use it to his team’s advantage such as using his skilled spin bowlers when the ball is worn down.
Junior players and others coming up in the ranks who want to be bowlers should get a few cricket balls and practice as much as possible. There are many skills they should develop and they might want to get a good coach if they aspire to be professionals one day. They should also put an equal amount of effort in learning all they can about cricket and the different strategies so that they can develop into strong all-around cricket players.
