Pitching Requires Discipline and Patience

I have instructed over 2,000 pitchers in the last nine years. My best students share some of the same characteristics and they all learn to apply the knowledge they gain from each lesson. Here is a brief list of attributes that my best students share.
The very best of pitchers have an outstanding knowledge of how the game of baseball is played. They have it down to a science. They just dont study proper pitching mechanics or just want to learn about how to throw a baseball. NO! They are eager to learn about every aspect of how the game is played. They dig deep into the minds of their opponents to understand their weaknesses and then attack them so they will not succeed against them when its their turn to face them.
The most successful pitchers learn from their mistakes and then get over them quickly. Pitchers who win the most games accept failure as a learning tool and expect to win their next game. They cannot change the past; they only move forward.
The pitchers who use visualization exercises before, during and after a game are the ones that seem to experience the most success. They are avid students of the game and are often studying the best hitters looking for weak areas to attack. They trust their team and every teammate that they will back them up in whatever situation they are in on and off the field.
Pitchers are leaders on and off the field. The best pitchers have complete control over their emotional state and they do not sweat the small stuff. They are always a step ahead of their competition; meaning they know where they are weak and where and what to throw them on each count. They never accept mediocrity and are true work horses.
If a batter gets the best of a pitcher at one bat; they rarely make the same mistake twice. They get over bad games quickly and dont sweat the small stuff.
