The Amazing Hedgehog

In many cultures, Hedgehogs serve as a food source. Hedgehogs were a likely food in Ancient Egypt. Some Late Middle Ages recipes still call for hedgehog meat. In some regions like In the Middle East, more so amongst Bedouins, meat of the hedgehog is well believed to be of great medicinal value. It is even thought to cure rheumatism and arthritis.
Rheumatism and arthritis are even thought to be cured by the hedgehog meat. Supposedly known to feed on the hedgehog meat are the Romani people. They also use its blood and fat for its medicinal value. The hedgehog suggested method of killing is holding its hind legs and its nose chopped off at the tip leaving it to bleed to death. Quite a funny way of killing it and this usually happens when it unrolls.
Hedgehogs are largely nocturnal, but they may be more or less active during the day. However, this depends on some species. The hedgehog sleeps mostly during daytime and this they do for a large portion of the day. All wild hedgehogs usually hibernate, but there are factors like temperatures and food abundance among others that can affect their hibernation.
Hedgehogs have in their possession many alternating defense mechanisms. A hedgehog will take off rather than deal with a threat in most cases. It either rolls up in a ball or not while under attack. All hedgehogs have the strength to run, with most being able to achieve up to 4.5 miles per hour or even better. They are also adept to swimming and at climbing walls and trees that are steep.
Some of the desert hedgehogs have an adaptation of bearing less weight, and therefore they would try to run away or in some instances, even try attacking the intruder. They usually try to ram into the intruder using their spines. As a last resort, they roll. This behavior conceives the different types of predators on hedgehogs. For example, forest hedgehogs have rather not so many predators but the few available are birds (in particular owls) and with the smaller species; they have foxes, wolves and mongoose as their predators.
