Colorado Springs is a great destination for a holiday with your family and the cost of the holiday is not going to ruin your budget. There's plenty to do and see for both adults and kids alike from museums to spectacular natural scenery. Here are some of the spots that you should visit on your vacation.
Pike's Peak just misses out on being the tallest mountain in Colorado but is located where the mountains meet the plains. Because of this location, it became famous during the gold rush because wagon trains could see it from far away. The shelter offered by the mountain makes for a pleasant and mild climactic conditions and the region at its base has many natural mineral springs. The hiking trail up the Peak is a difficult 12.6 miles with a gain in elevation of 7500 feet. In addition you can get to see lots of elk, deer and big horn sheep. After Mt. Fuji in Japan, this is supposedly the mountain that is visited most.
Seven Falls is popularly known as the "Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado" and the falls descend 181 feet through a set of seven separate turns. If you enjoy plenty of exercise, you can climb 224 steps to the top. There is also an elevator that takes you to the Eagles Nest at the top overlooking the falls and offering spectacular vistas. The falls are illuminated at certain times of the year and offer a sight that you should not miss if you can help it. You should bear in mind that the only restrooms are situated adjacent to the parking lot and you should use them before you begin to climb to the falls.
Ledge Rock Ranch is a former pioneer homestead is that now serves as a museum of living history. As you visit the three different areas, you and your kids can learn about the pioneer way of life from the staff that wear appropriate costumes and go about their chores just as they would have in the old days. That's an attached picnic area that you can use. Both the United States Olympic Complex and the Western Museum of Mining and Industry are well worth a visit. You can see the training facilities and the amenities at the Olympic complex wildly exhibits in the garden will keep your kids amused and entertained. The museum is an interesting way to look at the history of mining in this region. You can try your hand at gold panning if you like or just walk around the complex to see the larger exhibits...
