Turkeys abound in the season of spring, giving a good chance for turkey hunters. Therefore, turkey hunting is a well-known spring sport. All that you need to make the most of this sport is a shot gun made for the purpose.
Interested individuals have plenty of options to get when searching for turkey shoot guns. Up until a few years ago all you needed to have was a scattergun and a few bullets to go turkey hunting. These days however you will have to do a lot of hunting to look for the right type of gun for your requirement.
Nowadays, shotguns are manufactured with proper specifications needed to suit turkey- hunting. An important thing to keep in mind prior to beginning the venture is that turkeys are in no way dumb. It is really a hard thing to aim at a turkey and shoot at it successfully. A perfect shot would be to hit exactly in the middle of its head from a minimum shooting range of 50 yards.
As it was believed that a heavy load was required to make an effective shot, a ten gauge shot gun was widely used for turkey shooting. But taking along a heavy gun was strenuous and hence the turkey hunting sport didn't seem to be amusing enough.
A comparatively better option is the 12 gauge shot gun having a 3 to 3 with half shells. The light weight of this gun is simpler to take along and the outcome is also good enough. Some hunters use baby mag shells in their choice of the 12 gauge 21/2 inch shotguns.
Shotguns are of two sorts, namely the pump shotguns and the semi-automatic shotguns. It is up to the hunter to choose from them. Amateurs might want to use an automatic gun, because consecutive shots can be squeezed easily, than the semi-automatic. Moreover, amateurs may need more than one chance to shoot the targeted bird.
The feature that differentiates the automatic gun from the pump model is the fact that while making the next consecutive shot, the automatic gun is simpler to use. If you are experienced enough to strike the turkey in the very first shot, the pump model is the best choice. Experts choose the pump shot gun that also serves as an action repeater firing a number of shots per load.
The barrel size that is most opted is the shorter one, because the most favorable position to shoot is sitting. While sitting down, the short barrel allows free movement, wherein the gun can be swung easily without having to be hung up.
The shorter barrel helps to make a swift shot as it is easy to manage when a turkey occasionally enters the shooting range abruptly. A smaller gun is also beneficial since it is not hard to take it along the dense reeds and also because it is easy to carry it on the shoulder.
