Fill CO2 Paintball Tanks - The 3 Things You Have To Have
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Being able to fill tanks is a service every paintball field and store should offer. If you aren't a store, and just want the luxury of being able to fill your tanks whenever you want, then that's fine too. It's pretty awesome to be able to skip the trips to the store to get tanks filled, especially if the nearest place is an hour a way. Needless to say, teams, players, fields and stores can all enjoy the luxury of having the equipment to fill tanks.
Fill Station - There are different fill stations for HPA and co2 tanks. You will need to get the appropriate fill station for the type of gas you will using. HPA fill stations are for HPA tanks, and co2 fill stations are for co2 tanks. Pretty simple stuff. You can both types for sale, between $30 and $70.
Scale - You will need a scale to weight tanks as you fill them. It is important to monitor how much you have put into the tank, as overfilling can be dangerous. I highly recommend a digital scale so you can read the weight easily. Stay away from hanging scales, I know they are tempting to buy because they are so cheap, but they just aren't worth it. They are a pain to use because you have to wait for the tank to stop swinging. A table scale is the best. Digital postal scales are prime!
Bulk Fill Tank - Bulk tanks can be found at specialty gas suppliers like AirGas or in specialty shops. You can get bulk scuba tanks at a scuba shop, or straight off of eBay. If you have a scuba tank you can take it to a local scuba shop to get it filled. Once that's done you can slap on your HPA fill station and give her a go. If you want to fill co2 tanks, then welding shops are a great place to find bulk tanks for lease. You simply rent a 25 pound tank for $25 to $35 bucks and your ready to go.
These 3 things are really the only things you need to fill tanks. Perhaps the most difficult item to get is the bulk fill tank. Sometimes you have to jump through hoops to get one. I personally had to get insurance (which was very affordable) in order to legally possess a 25 pound co2 tank. However, once you find a reliable supplier, you're ready to fill, fill, fill!
