LG 50PS60 - A Good Deal or Not?

The LG 50PS60 is part of the 2009 lineup of Plasma TVs presented by LG. Being one of their newer models obviously a lot is expected from it. Does it really stand up to them or is it just old tech packed up in a new, pretty looking box. This review will shed some light on what this offering from LG really is worth.
The LG 50PS60 offers full 1080p resolution and comes in a large 50 inch size. Offering an impressive 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, image quality is really enhanced along with some of the deepest black levels that have been seen. This new TV also offers 600Hz Smooth Motion Technology which allows it to virtually eliminate motion blur and image distortion, even with fast moving images from sporting events, video games and action movies. The colors so natural that it seems like you're right there taking part in the movie itself.
LG's 50PS60 also features the Smart Energy Star 3.0 that they've has been equipping their Plasma TVs with helping you to conserve money and energy. Given that Plasma TV's tends to be a hog as far as power supply is concerned, this is a real positive plus. The TV also has 4 HDMI inputs for those long hours of gaming. However, surprisingly, the Ethernet connectivity option and THX Media Director which was seen on LG's recent PS80 series is not there. On the other hand it does offer the THX Cinema More Option which allows you to watch your favorite TV shows in all their visual glory.
Compared to other models on the market, the LG 50PS60 stands up on its own quite well. Although some of the older LG models such as the 50PG60 didn't really do well against Samsung's, Sony's and Panasonic's offerings LG has improved it's technolgy in plasma TV's and has narrowed the gap that was lacking in its previous 50PS60 and the PS80 models. For instance both of these have a new Simplink technology which allows you to connect to all the Audio/Video devices and control them with a single remote. The 50PS60 has also greatly improved black levels over the previous models and offer Yahoo widgets, Netflix instant streaming and CIFS (Common Internet File System) for streaming videos straight from the net. This new TV with is energy saving features also offers 100,000 hours of viewing.
So is it recommended? Well LG is not exactly the market leader in Plasma TVs, however all that is changing with their new LG 50PS60, which is as good as any Plasma TV on the market as far as picture quality is concerned, and the deeper black levels and improved contrast are some features that will no doubt catch the fancy of some very discerning TV viewers. Depending on where you purchase it, you can get a 50 inch plasma TV at under $1,500 dollars which is very reasonable for a plasma TV.
