Here's How To Watch a Movie Online - Was I a Jerk?
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
The other day, I got an email from a friend asking if he could borrow my DVD of "Scarface". I wrote him back and told him to stop bothering me and just download it.
Ok, maybe I wasn't quite so harsh. But I think I threw him off at first!
My point was that he didn't need to go and find the DVD. All you need anytime you want to watch a movie is an internet connection.
More and more people have been asking us what the best way to download movies online is, and whether it is possible to find a big selection online.
First, let me assure you that, yes, there is an enormous selection of movies available online. Not only can my friend find Godzilla, but she can choose from all the latest releases as well as old favorites. In fact, you have more to choose from online than any video store can offer.
Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about the question so many of you have ? "Where can I download movies online?"
It's important to say where you shouldn't go to download movies. Avoid peer-to-peer networks like LimeWire and Kazaa. While these are OK for find music, they are a very poor choice for movies.
These networks may have some movies, but they also are completely unmonitored, so you never know what you are really downloading ? you can easily catch a virus this way. You never know just what you are downloading from these networks.
The other problems with these networks are limited selection and download speeds.
A movie is a large file to download. When you're using a shareware program it can easily take over a day or two to finish downloading as the speeds can be terribly slow at times. You also won't find many of the movies you are looking for. The selection is limited compared to other options you have.
Your next option is to use some type of paid download service. There are different websites that let you download movies for a "per download" fee. You search for a movie, pay a fee for the download (about $10), and are able to have the movie over a secure network at a good download speed.
This isn't a bad choice, but you can get movies much cheaper than this.
There are membership-based movie download websites which allow you to download unlimited movies for a onetime fee; usually about $30-$50. You can then download all the movies you want, whenever you want.
The great thing about these sites is that you only have to pay once for access to a huge selection of movies. The download speeds are good and they are guaranteed to be free of viruses.
The best of these membership sites will also give you software to burn these movies to DVD so that you aren't limited to watching them on your computer.
Did my friend find Godzilla?
Yes he did. And I'm pretty confident he won't be bugging me for a DVD in the future ;)
With more and more people going online to find movie downloads, it shouldn't surprise you to gradually see a decline in the number of video stores in your area. Downloading movies is a great way to find your favorite flick without even needing to leave the house! Enjoy!
