Most of our desires in seeking a teacup Yorkie are not ill-willed. But with some education many may change their opinion about wanting a teacup Yorkie, as well as support the fad of the teacup Yorkie. A teacup Yorkie may sound like a lot of fun.
As Yorkies have become more popular, so have teacup yorkie. The sad truth is that the hype behind teacup Yorkies is misleading. It all begins with the Yorkshire terrier breed history.
The Yorkshire terrier was created as a breed originally as a toy category. This means that it was decided that Yorkshire terriers were preferable as a smaller dog. A standard was created that the Yorkshire terrier be bred to be only within the weight range of 3 to 7 pounds.
This was a stretch at the time, seeing as the dogs size had to be carefully controlled in breeding procedures. But today we often forget or do not know in the first place this important piece of history. As a result, we tend to want a smaller and smaller Yorkie to cuddle. One fun fact about the Yorkie is that they are one of the smartest breed of dogs.
Since World War II, the Yorkie breed began to increase again in popularity. People for some reason have gotten the notion that the smaller the Yorkie, the better. The term teacup yorkiehas been popularized as a fad, and some think the teacup Yorkie has become more well known than the general Yorkshire terrier breed.
It is often the case for teacup yorkies to be bred under 3 pounds. Yorkies weighing less than 3 pounds are not recommended. With the teacup Yorkie come health risks such as small and easily broken bones, tracheal collapse, and sudden death from hypoglycemia.
