If you have mechanical or technical capabilities there is no reason why you can't repair your BlackBerry yourself. Here is how to common repairs.
If your BlackBerry was accidentally dropped into bucket full of water or it fell out of your pocket and the lens got scratched, there are some simple techniques to get the scratches off a BlackBerry as well as some other repairs.
The tools you will need for these repairs include a Torx 5 screwdriver, some prying tools, miniature screwdrivers, and a clean cloth or rubber mat. It should be noted that of you disassemble your BlackBerry it will void the warranty.
With a clean soft surface and tools in place you can start the disassembly process. Start by removing the microSD card, SIM, battery, and battery cover. Put the BlackBerry face down on the clean surface and first remove the battery cover. Then carefully remove the SIM card and the battery. If your BlackBerry has a mIcroSD card remove that too. Remove any Torx screws that you find. Use tweezers if necessary because you don't want to turn over the BlackBerry unless it is necessary. Using the appropriate size and head screwdriver, remove all of the other screws. Ensure that there are no screws remaining in the front case after turning the BlackBerry over. Remove the internal, metallic or plastic frame and you now can see the inside of the BlackBerry.
Now, you can replace parts or clean parts such as the trackball. There are numerous places to get parts for the BlackBerry locally and on the Internet. If your BlackBerry uses a trackball, this is a good time to clean it.
There is a silver ring that holds the trackball in place that you must remove carefully. After removal of the trackball clean it with a clean dry cloth. Next, clean the inside of the trackball housing where the sensors are located. Be particularly careful not to damage the sensors. Then put the trackball back into the housing and replace the silver ring.
If there are scratches on a BlackBerry lens you have the option of replacing the lens but that does mean that you will have to disassemble the BlackBerry and buy a lens. However, there is a way to clean minor scratches on the BlackBerry lens that will work. You will need some display polish that is designed to polish cell phone lenses that works well.
Apply some the display polish to the lens. While applying light pressure rub the polish on the lens with a clean cloth. Clean the remaining polish off with a clean cloth until the lens is clear. If there are deeper scratches repeat the process.
