Web design is the art of planning the appearance of hypertext content or hypermedia content which is called a webpage and a website. This presentation called website is done for posting it on the World Wide Web. This website can be viewed by others through the internet with the help of a web browser or through the help of other similar software. Microblogging and internet television are some examples of alternatives used instead of a web browser. There are various categories of planning involved in web design. Animation is a discipline in the web design world where the webpage that is to be designed is decorated with animations. Many other disciplines like authoring and graphic design come as a part of web designing process. Authoring and corporate identity are used in web design for online marketing. Information architecture and marketing is followed in web design to sell products and services. Even photography and typography can be a subject related to web design. There are many languages by which web designing can be done. Some of the languages used include markup languages like XML and XHTML. HTML can also be used but it has become child’s play in the recent years. CSS and XSL are some of the style sheet languages that are used for web designing. The most effective language used in web design should be JavaScript and VBScript. Although there are speculations about client side scripting being the best method of web design, server-side scripting has also made its mark on the web design field primarily because it is continuously evolving and flexible to development. MySQL is a database technology that can be learnt and utilized more easily than the other languages used in web design. For multimedia purposes technologies like Silverlight is used, although flash is the widely accepted multimedia application. Mostly web pages are designed to be static in nature. Dynamic pages can also be programmed but it requires high level of skill. The specialty about dynamic pages is that its appearance can adjust to the various factors like input from the user. For example, if you are using gmail account you will notice that if the internet connection speed is low then the page will load the HTML version of gmail rather than the newer version. Dynamic pages are also suited for alterations due to the programming environment or the behavior of the Webmaster.
The first web design was done by Tim Berners-Lee in the year 1991. He also eventually launched the first website. Tim Berners-Lee came about the concept of webpage by combining the applications of Internet and email with hypertext. Hypertext markup language was the language used by him when he launched the first website, although the version used was the most basic one. HTML slowly evolved for better presentation and now many other languages have been developed to manage the several necessities that are in demand while designing a webpage. The hypertext concept was mainly for navigating to different WebPages by just clicking on a single hyperlink.
