Some of us have a fetish for rearranging furniture. Some of us enjoy redecorating our home. Some of us prefer not to make changes. Now think about your website. How's the layout? Does it need a sprucing up? How are your conversion rates? Has your website been added on to lately? When is it time to consider website redesign?
How inviting is your website? Think about what kind of space a visitor would like to walk through. Visitors want to be able to find what they're looking for quickly and if that isn't happening, they're likely to look elsewhere. Even things like clutter or tacky imagery can turn someone away. If you suspect any sort of potentially frustrating spaces on your website to either navigate or view, it's probably time to look into website redesign.
Is your website up-to-date and fresh? Most visitors are quick to detect whether a website is up-to-date and humming with the times. Some turn-offs would be things like dead links or a lack of new information about what's happening with whatever the website is promoting. How long would someone want to visit in a living space that was drab and full of old newspapers? Poor color schemes, poor imagery, and poor grammar are also likely to turn visitors away. When visitor's lose interest quickly, it's probably time for website redesign.
How are your conversion rates? If they have not been increasing, you may want to redesign for conversion. If you find out that visitors have been turned off because of a lack of appeal or frustration with walking through your website, rearranging and redecorating may be just what needs to happen in order to increase conversion rates. Often you'll notice after a website redesign that it will improve internet sales as well.
Has your website been added on to lately? If so, it's probably time to look into website redesign. Just like whenever an addition is put on a home things need to be brought together in a unifying way, so do websites when there has been some expansion. It's important to be evaluating your website's functionality and draw regularly. If you clean things up along the way, you can avoid the need for a major reconstruction.
Overall, think of what kind of space that a visitor would like to visit in. Is it a space that is comfortable, appealing, orderly? Would they want to pull up a chair and stay a while? And, is it a space they would want to come back to, and perhaps tell a friend about? If you're having any doubts, it's probably time to consider website redesign.
