Milan is globally renowned for its art and fashion as well as a rich historical heritage about which one can learn by visiting its numerous museums. The architectural design of most of its buildings dates back the 4th Century although traces of Roman influence are still evident. It is also home to the world's largest assortment of marble figurines.
However, another unique attraction in this rustic City places it a notch above the rest. It is home to two of the best-performing European football clubs - Associazione Calcio Milano (AC Milan) and Internazionale Milano (Inter Milan).
A group of Englishmen founded AC in 1899. It locally goes by the nickname Rossoneri to mean 'Red Blacks' - the color of their uniform. They hold a remarkable reputation in Europe's soccer history. One of their most outstanding records was set in the 1991/92 Serie A season. It went through the entire period without losing even a single game, but lost in the finals to Parma.
Inter is the all time rival of AC Milan and has been in the soccer scene since 1909. They acquired their name from the desire of their founders to accept both local and international talent into the team. Their colors are black, blue and gold, the first two of which make their uniform. They have been leaders in the soccer front and have never faced relegation from the Serie A. They also hold a record as the first Italian team to win the Champions' League, Coppa Italia and Scudetto all in one season.
Inter is ranked 9th among the world's top ten wealthiest clubs earning over $190 million annually. AC on the other hand comes in 6th with annual revenues of more than $227. Between the two, these teams hold over 30 national, regional and local soccer titles.
These two share the San Siro Stadium named after the home district. The stadium was originally called the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in honor of a soccer hero who at some point played for both these teams.
Visitors to the city always enjoy a tour of this facility that seats approximately 85 000. Its unique aspect is the fact that it has a museum placed right inside of it - the San Siro Museum. In it people get to learn a thorough and complete history of these two clubs.
