The city of Steamboat Springs Colorado is the county seat as well as the most populated city of Routt County. It is a winter ski resort destination that is famous throughout the world and the highlight is the Steamboat Ski Resort which is located on Mount Werner in the Park Range. Hayden Colorado is located at the start of the Yampa River State Park which houses a stretch of protected river more than 130 miles long and is also home to the Yampa Valley Regional Airport. If you are a wildlife lover, you should take advantage of the proximity to the neighboring national parks where you will soon find yourself deep in the mountains.
Craig, Colorado is also located in the Yampa River Valley and possesses some of the most easily reached habitats of the bald eagle and the Golden Eagle in the northern regions of Colorado. One of the last wild mustang herds in the United States is located a short drive from town in Sandwash Basin. Also worth a visit is Kremmling, Colorado which is located at the confluence of the Blue River, Monday Creek and the Upper Colorado River. This is truly the river lover's paradise with international quality fishing, white water rafting, mountain biking and hiking surrounded by towering cliffs.
Walden, Colorado is located in North Park and the backbone of the area is the many cattle and sheep ranches. You can drive around getting the feel of traditional cowboy culture or go into the surrounding mountains for hiking and hunting. Oak Creek, Colorado was originally a small mining town which is seen many years of ups and downs to become a small town with tremendous atmosphere and ambience. The outdoors is next door because of the easy access to Flat Tops Wilderness Area and Stagecoach State Park.
