LED Grille Light – Low Cost Options for Emergency Lighting
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
LED grille light provides a very low cost and yet efficient solution for emergency vehicles which are looking for something that is compact, portable and yet effective enough for emitting a warning light. Grille lights are called so because they can easily be mounted close to the front grille or bumper of the vehicle and can emit narrow focussed beams to also illuminate the road if required. The grille lights also prove useful when an emergency vehicle blocking a parking area or a pavement can warn other motorists to be careful and apply brakes in time. Low level warning lights can help alert motorists from a long distance and can prove useful when there are highway wreckages involved as well. Grille lights usually cost less than $100 and you can purchase them in some cases at much lower prices during a clearance sale as well.
LED grille light usually comes in rectangular, oval or even circular shapes with 3 or 4, 4 watt super-bright LEDs that can provide sufficient lighting. Sometimes, split segment modules are also available with two sets of LEDs in pairs of colours like red and blue. Self-contained flash patterns make the lighting from the grille lights even more effective, enhancing the visibility even more during foggy conditions. The grille lights come with synchronization wire which helps in ensuring that flashing is in sync especially if there are multiple segments. In some cases, 1 Watt LED elements are used to conserve energy and they can prove more than sufficient with a low current draw of around 500mA and a 12 V DC power supply.
The dimensions of a modern LED grille light vary but the thickness rarely goes above 2 inches while the length is usually less than 5 inches. The width too is less than 2 inches in most cases. The lights are encapsulated so that the LEDs are not affected by either vibration or moisture or even splashing water, during rains. Weather resistant grille lights boast of linear optics and linear modules which can provide impressive off-axis visibility as well. Grille and fog lights are similar in that they are installed at a very low level in the front of the vehicle and are particularly effective in bad weather conditions. Sometimes entire light heads are used with the combination of LEDs and domes to fill the light heads uniformly creating an aura that is more easily visible compared to unidirectional lighting of the LEDs.
Optic spreading filters are used in an LED grille light so that the wide angle beams prove effective at intersection points. Dual colour grille light equipment can be particularly attractive with their alternate and sequential flashing, along with the occasional quad bursts for maximising lighting output. Emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances and cop vehicles can all make use of the grille lights which are usually available along with accessories such as L Brackets and mounting straps. Some grill light bodies are epoxy coated or powder coated too for additional corrosion resistance.
