At any moment your home could become the target of a burglar’s selfish desires putting not only your material goods at risk, but also your loved ones. While the incident of an intruder pulling a gun on a family member is not that common, it’s one we prepare for more than say, our own gun accidently injuring or killing someone (hence the reason we bought the gun in the first place).

However, if you own a gun, whether it’s for hunting, protection, or a collectable, accidents do happen especially when curious children are involved. It’s your responsibility to ensure that your loved ones are safe, and that your own gun can’t be used against you. The only way to do this is to purchase a top quality gun safe with the right safety features.

Five Important Gun Safe Safety Features

1. Make sure your gun safe is made from rock solid high-gauge steel. This will keep it impenetrable from any common hand tools.

2. Combination locks can be tampered with if you have the right tools. The access system should keep everyone out, but those that have the right code or the right fingerprints. Biometric fingerprint recognition is the newest innovation in gun safe technology, and allows you faster and more secure access than ever before.

3. Top quality gun safes will have indicators to notify you if your safe has been tampered with. This is an excellent feature considering someone could find your safe and try to open it. If it’s been played with you will know it’s time to find a more secure hiding place.

4. Fire proof features may seem a little over the top, but the truth is that fires do happen. A safe is there to not only store guns, but also valuable papers, passports, etc. If your home ever went up in flames your materials would be protected for up to 90 minutes if you bought the right safe.

5. As with any new product you want to make sure its manufacturer has a reliable reputation. This is most certainly the case for gun safes. So, make sure that not only the equipment checks out, but also the manufacturer. Do some research!
