Fun Decorating: Expressing Yourself
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
The easiest way to decorate is to express yourself. Yes, you heard me right. Express yourself through decorations, theme and motif, furnishings and knick-knacks just as you would when you write, perform arts, do arts and the like. Show your personality and the things you like, and decorating any room of your liking will be a breeze.
Be creative in beautifying a space. The bedroom is the number one room to personalize because it is after all a very personal space. Make it about you. Show your interests, hobbies, favorites, likes, etc. and you'll never go wrong. You'll be staying in a room that you will love. Some people may not like it, but remember it's YOUR room.
Before starting with the redecorating, open your closet doors and pick out the items you love (and wear) the most. Whether the items you pull out are baby tees or full length trench coats, lay them all out in front of you and take a long, hard look. Take note of the common traits. Is there a particular color or pattern that keeps showing up? Or did you pick articles that were unusually detailed? Maybe you're attracted to stark contrasts. Start building up your decorating aesthetic from what you find in the closet.
Utilize fabrics with textures of your liking. I love everything fluffy and lush, so my area rugs, comforter, drapes and even my bedroom slippers are all as fluffy as cotton. Go for the materials that make you feel good. If for some reason you dig the coarse texture, by all meansit's your room anyway.
Decorate your room with personal items that you like. Let's admit it, there are some personal stuff that we don't really fancy. No one's forcing you to display items that you don't likeor is there? So go for things that make you smile or reminisce fondly when you lay eyes on them.
Customize some things to suit your personality and preferences. It can be making your own artwork, purchasing out-of-this world photo frames, repainting a cabinet or buying a heart-shaped area rug. It's all about you. It's your room, so suit it to your liking.
As mentioned, some people may not like it. Maybe you won't even like your room after a night's sleep and your head is clearer. Decorating is a trial and error task. You can always redecorate. There are no limits for improving your space. A point to take to heart is to surround yourself with things that make you happy, make you feel good and have a special meaning to you. By these standards, you'll always feel alright...no matter how queer your room looks.
