Creating The Perfect Room From Baby To Teen
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
When you find out you are expecting your first child many feeling run through your head. One may be the design of the nursery. You then may want to consider trying to theme the room around something which can grow with the child. This will allow you to spend less down the road remodeling the room once your child grows up. You want something which will last quite a few years and won't need to be maintained when that time comes to rearrange the look and design.
The nursery is not going to be a nursery forever, so pick a theme that can be easily changed. Try a theme like the night sky. It is easy to do and can be used along with many themes. First paint the walls a dark blue. Then add smoky gray clouds in by ragging (using a wadded up rag to dab) on a medium gray paint in a circular pattern. Add glow in the dark stars and you have a night time sky. How do you make this look nice in a baby's room? Well it is all about the accessories. For a nursery you should add a bed time theme.
Place soft, sleeping bears all over the room and add a moon's silhouette on the ceiling for a "Good Night, Moon" theme. You could also look for nursery rhyme decor to match the "Hey Diddle, Diddle" poem. It would be precious to paint a cow jumping over the moon in the night sky!
As you design your nursery's theme, make sure you add a rug to protect the carpet. The rug will be a very important part of the room. Stay with the nighttime theme when choosing your area rug to add another element of design to the space. Find a dark blue rug to match the walls this will look nice and protect the floor from those nasty baby stains that tend to happen. Dark colors are the best choice for rugs in baby rooms because they hide dirt, spills, and stains.
As you know, children grow and so do their imaginations and decisions come out of the wood work. With the sky themed room it's easy to change around for an older child as they grow. Try introducing the solar system. Taking out the "Hey Diddle Diddle" decor and adding a science feel will make it more appealing for their age group as they grow.
Of course when the children become teenagers everything changes. They no longer want the solar system because it's not "cool" enough. By adding a black light and a brightly colored rug, it will make their space feel like their own. Also look for artwork which is black light sensitive and will reflect the light making it a great art piece.
Make sure to choose wall color or a theme which can grow with your child. You don't want to end up painting the room every couple of years because their ideas and likings change. Try to choose a basic color or theme that you can add and remove decor to create a different look for your child. This is a very inexpensive way to make a room last many years.
