Step By Step Wall Sticker Removal Guide
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
So you've had your wall stickers applied for a while and fancy a change? They were easy to put up but are they easy to take down? The answer will be yes but probably with a little help as it all depends on the wall / surface, time the sticker has been up and also the actual sticker itself.
Removing from walls
To trick is to make sure the paint is undamaged. Pulling the sticker too quickly may attach paint to it and also rip the sticker.
1. Test the wall sticker by slowly pulling at a corner to see how stuck it is. In some cases it will remove quite easily without leaving any damage to the paintwork.
2. Upon testing, if the graphic is firmly in place then use a hairdryer (on a medium setting) to carefully heat the corner. Slowly peel back the sticker whilst applying heat further in as you go.
3. Remain patient at all times!
4. Usually with the heat removal there isn't any residue but if there is try soapy water but if this doesn't remove it then use an adhesive remover or even wd-40 / nail polish remover (always try a small area first to test it and use sparingly).
Removing from glass
Unfortunately as wall stickers adhere so well to glass they can be a bit harder to remove but at least you don't have to worry about paint coming off with it! If you have a diy glass scraper then this can also be used in conjunction with the points below.
1. Grab the hairdryer! Use a hairdryer (on a warm setting) to heat the edge, then as it starts to get easier to peel, apply more heat to the next area as you carefully peel back the sticker.
2. If there is any residue left on the wall then use some soapy water to carefully remove. If this doesn't work then a dedicated adhesive remover or even WD-40 should do the trick. As a last resort try some nail polish remover but use sparingly and test an area first.
Follow the step by step guide and you won't have any problems removing your wall stickers and definitely avoid the problems associated with wallpaper scraping. Above all stay calm!
