Planning An Outdoor Party - Advice From An Expert
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
It is actually very easy to make your outdoor area, no matter what its size, a comfortable spot in which to do some outdoors entertaining during the warm season, giving your guests the opportunity to enjoy your affair in a relaxed and natural setting. What do you need to consider to make such an affair a success?
Lighting: From candles, to lanterns, to torches, it tends to go without saying that lighting is the ultimate in setting a mood and adds so much to your outdoor space. You can find a lot of the aforementioned lighting items at reasonable prices and often on sale. You may also think about investing in a fire pit; nothing invites guests to gather round more than a cheery, warm blaze.
Seating: You need to decide on seating for your guests. Changing the arrangement of the patio furniture you already own gives a new feel to the space. You can save money and have some fun at the same time by selecting items from inside the house. Your guests will luxuriate in comfortable seating when you offer them indoor items like couches, daybeds, futons, and large chairs to sit on. Another cost-saving idea is to include some mismatched pieces that you have purchased on sale in your party space. And for an entirely novel look and feel, accent your furniture with colorful pillows and cushions.
Decor: While Mother Nature has already supplied a lot of "natural" decor for your party area, you can pull it all together by adding a few fun pieces to the mix to create the perfect, out-of-doors affair. Hang decorative items on such tall structures as patio covers and trees if your outdoor space contains them. Pennant flags, paper lanterns and the hanging lights we have already mentioned are excellent items to use. Do not overdo it, however, and create a crowded look to your space; you will achieve a minimalist yet dramatic mood by hanging just a few, decorative items.
Tents and Umbrellas: If your space is relatively small and you would like some sort of overhead covering, you can buy or rent large table-top umbrellas that can also be used unattached to a table. These provide a festive flair and can shield you from unpredictable summer weather. If you are working with a larger space, consider renting a tent to host your function. Tents are elegant and also practical, shielding guests from bad weather or hot temperatures. A tent will completely change the look of your space and provide you with a new decorating palette.
