New Code For Pools And Spas

Two large companies have joined hands recently to make a better pool and spa code for the year 2012. These are the International Code Council (ICC) and the Association of Pool Spa Professionals (APSP). The two giants will work together to create the new code that follows the latest ideas on pool and spa safety, energy efficiency and best practices. This is believed to be the very first code that will apply to all types of pools, spas and hot tubs regardless of whether they are public or residential. It also covers aquatic recreation facilities.
Jay Peters, Code Council Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Group executive director remarked that the ICC makes codes that keep people safe no matter where they live, work and play. The new pool and spa code will hopefully increase safety once it is passed because it will improve other codes that are being followed in 50 states.
The new code will reflect APSPs American National Standards-approved measures that are utilized on pools, spas, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities. It will also draw on ICCs expertise in building-safety codes, fire-prevention codes and energy-efficiency codes for both residential and commercial purposes. This will make sure that pool and spa construction, maintenance and operation requirements are consistent across the country and globally.
Proponents say that builders, manufacturers and code officials will have the same reference when the new code is used. Carvin DiGiovanni, senior director of Technical and Standards for APSP said the new code will be the most comprehensive pool and spa code ever.
The APSP is the largest international trade association of the swimming pool, spa and hot tub industry. It is concerned with consumer safety and the success of its members. The latter follow a stringent code of business ethics and are committed to public health and safety in the use of pools, spas and hot tubs. The ICCs building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency codes are being used in residential and commercial buildings. A lot of American cities, counties and states stick to these codes due to their outstanding quality.
