Award That Old-Time Sofa The Leather Repairs It Requires

Are you in the same situation I was? Do you have that expensive and (at one time) nice looking leather or vinyl chair or sofa? Is it time to start thinking about what you are going to do with this worn, but well loved item? Keep it anyway? Do you want to try and fix it yourself or do you thing of getting it professionally fixed? These are the things I have been plagued with for a while now.
But a better option is to fix it. I seemed to be in this fix with an old chair I had in the living room, and wanted to fix but didn't know how to start.
You see I inherited this wonderful leather chair, but its twenty years old, cracked in places, and yes? there is even a tear here and there. My husband keeps telling me to put it in one of my famous garage sales, or give it away, but every time I look at that old chair, I just can?t seem to do anything. I love it so much! It reminds me so much of my grandmother! This simple chair brings back so many 'story telling' memories.
So I only have one of two options. I can try to repair it myself, or I can call in the professionals to have them repair it. Each method has its advantages, and yet also its consequences and this is probably why that old chair has stayed in the same condition for so long.
Here are my Do it Yourself repair options.
The DIY Kits - Well, I got tired of looking at the old sofa, so I started investigating my options and found the old DIY method. There are leather and vinyl repair kits that have online instruction to go along with them. I started reading the instruction and they say that the leather and vinyl repair kits need to be used for small tears that are not all that visible.
I turned to the old chair. Did I really believe those tears were tiny and barely visible? They might be, if I had cataracts, or invited only my aged blind friends over. I still needed this option to be the right one, so I continued going over the instructions. The repair patch may have a problem bonding with old leather. Was twenty year old leather really that old? Maybe not for my 80 year old aunt, I think they would say that was almost new. But can I get away with saying that? Wow, and what if it doesn't bond together?
The instructions went on to say that the use of the grain paper to the repaired area would make the new leather appear old. Would I be able to do these quick bonding jobs all over the chair? It might just look like a natural leather patchwork! But that?s not really the look I want!
The Professional Way! ? Nope! The do it yourself option is not for me, the only way for me to go is to get it professionally repaired. So I went ahead and called to find out how much it would cost, I was surprised at how low the cost was. It wasn't expensive at all. In fact, I would say I got a great price. This was it for me and it turned out beautiful.
So I suggest, if you have a vinyl or leather sofa and need to have it repaired, you should get it professionally repaired. don't just keep that old look, and don't decide that it now has an antique finish. That was my way out. In the end my chair ended up being professionally fixed and looks great. It is now ready for another 20 years!
