How To Choose The Perfect Gym

If you have just moved to a new area or recently decided to turn over a new leaf and get fit and keep active, choosing a good gym could be key to ensuring a long and beneficial exercise programme. I recently moved to Southport therefore I was looking for a Southampton gym and the following was how I decided which gym was for me.
A great way to get a feel whether or not you would like to go to a gym on a regular basis is to try it out for size. Most gyms offer free day passes where you can try out the gyms facilities for free. I used to live in Liverpool and this was how I chose my Liverpool gym.
If you don't have time to take advantage of the free day pass offers here's a few things you should keep in mind before signing up to a membership.
Location/parking -
Where is the gym located? Is it commutable in consideration of where you live and where you work? How much time would you spend extra travelling to and from the gym? Also if it takes over 10 minutes to find a parking space is this going to keep up your motivation to go regularly?
Staff/members -
It is very important to feel welcome in your gym so how are you treated by the staff? Are they friendly? And what about the members? You're not going to be able to review each member to see if they are nice or not but you can get a feel for the clientele of the gym. Try testing the gym at a time that you would go normally.
Hours of operation -
Not only are you best checking that the gym is open at the times you which to regularly attend the gym but it is also advised to see how busy the gym gets. There is little point wanting a workout at 6pm if all the training machines are taken. Plan ahead according to the times you want to go.
Cleanliness -
If you are looking into paying a lot of money on a long term gym membership then you have got to make sure that the cleaning standards are to your satisfaction. Key areas to check are the toilets, changing rooms including lockers and showers.
Amenities -
Apart from all the usual training facilities, check if there are other amenities such as day care services, cafe's, tanning salon or spa treatments. How about the smaller stuff such as hair dryers, free shampoo and free lockers? You're not going to be happy after paying a lot of money for membership to have to pay for locker and hairdryer usage.
