My own GET FIT MISSIONS
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
I have been in the situation of wanting to lose weight many
times in my life, and depending on my
circumstances or even age and weight, my
mission has been different.
I'll go off into what some of my
missions were so as to give you an idea,
you don't have to copy me as I have
always been quite hard on myself and was
never too able to keep up a mission for
a very long time so I just concentrated
a lot of effort into it.
First time, I was 18 years old and found
myself with about 10 kgs to lose, to
give you a rough idea that's a bit more
than what 2 gallons of water weight.
I simply started to run, from my home 2
miles to the pine woods, through the
woods to the other end for another 2
miles and then back home for a total of
8 miles. I did that every day for about
a month and by the end of it I was back
to normal.
Another time I simply started going to
the local swimming pool in the morning
before work. I swam 30 minutes every day
for about 3 months till it became part
of my day.
I clearly remember that getting up about
90 minutes before everybody else in the
big city gave me a big advantage over
everyone else, by the time I went into
work I had already walked a mile to the
swimming pool, swam 30 minutes, took a
shower, walked back home, had an egg and
an orange and went into work to find
that most everyone was still half asleep
or had woken up less than 20 minutes
before, and they still couldn't get two
words together.
Somehow this advantage was felt
throughout the day, the downside being
that towards the end I became tired and
switched off before the others, when
others might have gone for a night out I
might have gone to bed, which helped me
be ahead than everyone else once more
and so I kept that routine way longer
than I had to, because in the end my
whole life gained from it, even money
wise and promotion wise.
Have you seen the movie "Limitless" ?
That's what was happening to me albeit
in a small scale.
After learning that by getting up early
and getting fit you get some "Limitless"
abilities, I always tried to recreate
the situation where I got up before
others and exercized. During these times
I was not on a mission to lose weight
but on a mission to gain power and
strenght and lucidity.
This time I was in a different country
to learn a different language and to
support me I was working in a restaurant
that was about 13 miles away, I solved
it by going there on a bycicle, after a
while it was no big sweat, and in the
big city traffic it was the quickest way
there and cheapest, too.
Only problem was that once there I was
all sweaty so I had to take a quick
shower and change clothes, same thing
when I got back home finished work.
As I grew older and started to
appreciate beer, a bit of a beer gut
appeared and once more I was on a
mission to lose weight, I remember
making a point to going swimming each
day and then when I got some good
stamina from it but my belly didn't want
to release the last bits of fat I
augmented the effort by hanging from a
branch in my garden and pulling my knees
up to my chin.. the first times I could
do it only about 3 times, by the time I
gave up on it all, I remember doing 50
such pull ups in the morning and 50 in
the afternoon.
Yes you will find that this stuff is as
addictive as eating donuts, the benefit
here is a well sculpured body and
muscles which burn calories even on your
days off.
Then somewhat my good luck seemed to
take a turn for the worse and... yes
well I had lots of bad luck and every
time I went onto a mission, the mission
was always interrupted by some forces
outside of my control and... I have been
fairly fat ever since, the last 10 years
getting quite worse and the last 5 years
with me giving up the struggle and
becoming obese, then my MBI reaching
38.16 at the age of 50 also due to the
fact that I have been giving up smoking,
and now I finally managed to maybe turn
my bad luck around, cut my losses,
redimension my life by buying a tiny
studio flat to make my home in.. at less
than 5 miles from the seaside.
To cut even more on my expenses, I got
rid of my car and have gone back to a
bycicle, which is what I do my shopping
with and at 6 miles to the nearest
supermarket... let me tell you I don't
need much of a mission to lose weight,
it's only a matter of time, but still, I
do have a mission and that's 1 hour swim
each day in the summer, but it becomes
quite often a two hours swim, at least 1
hour swim a week in the winter,
regardless of water temperature, and
often I can manage a 20 minutes swim per
day in water at 6c.
And I go to the seaside on the bycicle,
of course.
Right at the beginning of this new life
at the seaside while very fat and having
to move around on the bycicle and very
fat indeed, I cut down on all carbs,
wine, it's easier to say what I could
eat and that's salads and fruits and
nothing else, the occasional wine and
occasional load of pane pugliese, IF I
cycled to the far away supermarket for
it all, the one at 20kms from my home.
