So, you just found out that you are 4 weeks pregnant! How exciting to find out that there is a baby growing inside of you. There are probably hundreds of questions going through your mind about the baby and how you are to care for yourself and the baby starting at this early stage of your pregnancy.
The first thing you need to do is to consult with your doctor or obstetrician. They can help you decide which prenatal vitamin is best for you. Your health care professional can help you decide on the dietary needs for you and the baby.
There are lots of changes happening to your body during this stage. You are probably wondering just exactly what you should expect. While each pregnancy is unique there are some things that you can at least expect even though you may or may not have the same symptoms as some of your friends.
Many women begin to get tired about the time the pregnancy enters the fourth week. Your body is having to sustain two people now and you may feel tired because of the extra work it is doing. You may also start to feel some of the same things you feel just about the time you begin to menstruate, maybe some nausea or some cramps. It is possible to have severe cramps during this stage of your pregnancy but it is not common.
This stage of pregnancy is termed the embryonic period. This is when the organs begin to develop. This is a very critical time for the baby's growth and development. It is especially important to guard that you are not exposed to any types of harmful substances during week 4 and later. Check with your doctor about what substances to avoid as they can hinder the developing baby. If you are exposed to anything questionable let your doctor know immediately.
As soon as you suspect that you may be pregnant it is important to avoid any alcohol or tobacco use. These can both have harmful effects on the unborn baby. If you are addicted to either of these substances be sure to discuss it with your health care professional about ways to safely stop their use.
This is an exciting time of your pregnancy. You may have some morning sickness but that usually passes by the time you enter the second trimester. You may also find that you are sleepier than usual. This is also a normal occurrence when you are 4 weeks pregnant.
