Wrinkles - Laugh Lines Are No Laughing Matter
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
It is no secret that having smooth skin is considered to be very sexy, so despite their name, having laugh lines is no laughing matter. When you smile and laugh the small wrinkles that appear on the outside corners of your eyes tend to deepen and become more noticeable over time. Keeping these lines and other signs of aging at bay is no easy task, unless, of course, you are able to maintain an ideal weight, keep to the shade, avoid any and all pollution and never laugh. But don't despair; as with all appearances of aging, there are lots of small easy steps you can take throughout your life to minimize the problem.
The face is not the only place that wrinkles appear, but since this is the main part of yourself that other people see, this is the main area of concentration. Two ideas that anyone can do easily are to wear sunscreen in the summer and avoid rapid weight gain and loss. These two simple ideas can greatly improve the quality of your skin.
As we get older, skin does not remain as elastic as when we were young. The entire structure under our skin begins to deteriorate. After being stretched out after laughing or frowning, it doesn't bounce back like it used to. That doesn't mean that there is nothing that can be done about wrinkles.
Again it is plain clear that people who spend several hours under the sun without adequate skin protection, and those who smoke and thus neglect their health have to suffer from early signs of aging like abundant wrinkles on their faces. Same is true for people who didn't observe healthy dieting habits, experienced frequent weight gain and weight loss, and didn't care for their skin health.
Keeping your skin well-nourished is one of the basic rules of skin care. Following a diet that meets or exceeds the daily requirements of vitamins and minerals is essential. Dermatological tests have proven that without sufficient intake of Vitamin C and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid commonly found in flower oils) skin is more likely to age quickly and atrophy, resulting in abundant wrinkles. Also, a diet that is heavy in carbohydrates and fats can have a similar effect on the skin's appearance.
Sweat, oils, and pollution can clog pores and stress the skin. Using the wrong cleanser could do more harm than good as some soap can dry out the skin causing it to feel rough and others contain harsh ingredients that can cause irreparable damage. Just because a product is endorsed by a celebrity, promises the fountain of youth, or has an attractive name does not guarantee that it will prevent or remove wrinkles.
Make sure to look at all the ingredients in your facial cleanser. Of course, if you are allergic to anything, do not use that product. All those unpronounceable ingredients in your cleanser are confusing. Do some checking out online as to what these ingredients actually are and how they will affect your skin. You do not want to risk getting cancer from these ingredients in exchange for helping get rid of wrinkles. More natural and organic products are becoming popular and may be gentler to your sensitive facial skin.
Use a little common sense when it comes to skin care. Even though we all have to play the hand we are dealt - hypersensitivity to the sun or bad genes - doing a little research or choosing to wear a big floppy hat at the beach will go a long way towards keeping you skin smooth and fabulous.
