Hair clippers contain a two comb like blades that are sharpened and placed close to one another, with one place over the other. On operation, the blades slide past each other, a process that may either be manual or electrical. The hair is placed in such a position that they are between the blade and are cut by scissor action as the blades oscillate from side to side. Friction in the blade must be minimized either by use lubricant or a material that is more convenient.
The action of squeezing and releasing of the hand is what is used in the manual clipper operation. The machine was used to trim locks closer to the head. Trimming of human head was enabled by the use of these machines. The styles that were cut were common among the students and men in the army. The use of these manual machines has reduced since the invention of electric machines.
The electric types work the same way as the manual machine except that they are powered by electricity. The blades are oscillated from side to side by use of electric motors. The first model was made in 1921 and stood a variety of test. The two grade types of this machine include the consumer type and the professional grade type.
There is a huge difference between the professional and consumer type machines. This difference arises from the existence of an insulation that helps reduce machine heating. There are also some guides that exist in the consumer model which adjust the length of cut. Lastly, the professional model contains more metal parts compared to the consumer type.
Stainless steel is what is contained in the blades of machines. It inhibits the formation of rust on the metal surfaces. The ceramic blades are also resistant to corrosion. They also resist material wear.
Great difference exists between the hair clippers that are for home use and those made for professional purpose. To date, the machines are still popular for locks cut. They can be used for extreme precision once properly used.
