Fast food restaurants are sold in a national market - not just locally. One consequence of having a national market for these facilities is that there is growing evidence available on these types of properties than on most other types of properties.
Fast food restaurants are located all over the world, in almost every major city. They can be in or near shopping centers, movie theaters, and main tourist attractions. Fast food restaurants are now making "value" meals for children that are increased in portion sizes.
So, what can you do? Try, ordering that one item, but order healthier substitutions for the other two. If you always get a burger meal because you like the type of burger, simply order the sandwich. Order a sandwich without the condiments, or ask for them on the side so you can add your own. Many places offer you more salad dressing than you need, so add it yourself and don't use the whole packet.
Obesity is seen as the main reason of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Fast food portions are usually larger than those consumed at home, moreover fast food is cooked with more fat than we usually use while cooking at home. Obesity is now a leading public health problem in America with the highest obesity rate in the developed world.
What are the alternative to eating fast food? Make your own lunch and pick from two whole-grain breads for your sandwich and have an apple with it instead of chips (though the chips are fine, also, they can be baked!). Half-size soups, salads, and sandwiches make it a cinch to control portion size. But adding cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips can turn even a good meal unhealthy.
Be sure to also remember portion control since these types of restaurants can have enormous menu items (eat half and take the rest for another meal). Fast casual restaurants combine the convenience of fast food restaurants with the quality of casual dining. This new alternative to fast food and sit down restaurants threatens to steal market share from both.
