A house that clean, neat, and attractively decorated would surely attract the attention of potential buyers. However, they will take exception to a house that's overly decorated because they can't imagine where they can place their possessions. Besides, having too much clutter and knick knacks would hide the architectural features of your house.
Below are a few tips for minimalist home decorating.
LESS IS MORE. Things that aren't essential should be put away. Even if you have to ask your neighbor for some storage space in their garage, do it. Don't worry because it's only temporary and you may even realize you don't need those stuff anymore.
ORGANIZING THINGS. Now would be a good time to organize all your stuff and other projects. Temporarily rid your house of unimportant stuff. You can also start packing. If you want to find great looking baskets that don't cost a lot, try looking at WalMart or PierOne. Using those baskets will make it easier for you to organize. With a large basket, you'll be able to stack your magazines and coasters under your coffee table. You can also put away your bathroom items using a basket. If you allow all those stuff to lay out in the open, people will get distracted and the house will look used.
HOW TO ARRANGE. The things you keep around should be arranged in attractive ways so that your house will look interesting. For instance, group the canisters together in the kitchen. If you spread them out, the counter will look smaller. Try this on mantels, bookcases, and ledges as well. When it comes to grouping, make sure it's no more than 3 things together and that they vary in height and size. For instance, try grouping 2 candles on one side of the mantle and something smaller on the other side.
You need to remember that most of the time, potential buyers would be curious about photographs or things that are personal in nature. If you spend too much time talking about a family tree then you'll get nowhere in selling your house. So for now, it's a good idea to put away personal items.
In order for the buyers to envision their own family and possessions in your house, decorate it minimally and make it look attractive and clean.
