A class of this nature is usually effective because students would have the chance to gain hands on experience while learning at the job. This is not possible in large class because not all the students would be able to get practical experience. Thus, to choose a good class one should place special emphasis on the student teacher ratio.
Many training centers have a special class that teaches safety at sea. These classes also help the students develop their confidence so that they can remain calm even in rough weather conditions. It is good to have a first aid personnel on a vessel on which students are being trained. The reason is that being at sea for the very first time could cause some students to develop cases on hypothermia.
It goes without saying that any good training center should have more than enough rubber floaters for the students. Any school that fails in this regard will most likely fail in training students effectively. In addition, a sailing school that provides rubber floaters to students has shown a dedication towards their safety at sea.
