Learn Forex Basics That Any Trader Needs to Know
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
As in any area of human life there is a basic knowledge that any Forex trader needs to know before starting his trading career. The only reason why people get involved in trading Forex is to make profit by taking advantage of changing the currency exchange rates.
Acquiring the proper skill set and knowledge base takes time in any area of human life. Forex is no different. At the same time you can take some shortcuts with proper educational system and the right planning. The necessary knowledge would include:
* understanding of the basic principals of currency exchange including account management, trading margins, and the cost of the spread
* skills and knowledge of technical analysis: it is a powerful tool that helps traders to read the charts and predict the price movement. If you have the right technical analysis skills then making profitable trades becomes an easy task.
* fundamental analysis: understanding of market behavior due to major national or international economic events that have an impact on currency values.
* money management: very important skill that is crucial to protect and steadily grow your trading account.
* emotional control: developing the power to apply your system without allowing losses or emotions such as fear to throw you off balance and affect your chances of earning long term profits
Internet is full of useful resources to help you acquire these necessary basics. I personally think that online forums are very good places to learn some tricks in Forex trading. You can find all kinds of forums where people leave comments on variety of issues related to currency exchange market. So the first place I would recommend to go if you have any questions are online Forex forums.
On the other hand there are some big disadvantages that forums have. One of them is that the advice you get may be very contradictory. Since there are so many ways Forex profitably and it can be confusing to be receiving advice from several different people, each with their own approach. It is usually better to stick to your own trading system.
Another disadvantage of advices given out in forums is that you do not usually know anything about the people who are posting. People could sound very knowledgeable and then it turns out they have only ever used a demo account and never made a real trade in their lives. Some people like to spend more time hanging out in forums than actually trading. Therefore keep in mind just because somebody is very active in a forum does not mean he or she is an expert.
That's the reason you don't want to rely exclusively on online forums. When you first start trading currency you need solid understanding of basics and a trading system with clear enter and exit rules and sound money management rules. Therefore my advice is to look for a profitable system with solid risk management system in place. Sometimes it may be even reasonable to pay for such education. Since most good things in our life are not free.
